sponsorships Our sponsorship projects

As a company, our stores and our role is at the heart of society, and we believe it is important that we contribute in a positive way beyond our daily business in (food) retail. For that reason, both Ahold Delhaize and its 19 local brands have proactively entered into long-term partnerships with numerous charities.
At Ahold Delhaize we have chosen to work with charities that stimulate the development and education of young people and young talent. After a careful selection we decided to sponsor two projects long-term, the IMC Weekendschool and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy.

IMC Weekend School

Thanks to IMC Weekend School, motivated children from underprivileged neighborhoods get the opportunity to familiarize themselves with a wide range of interesting topics, including journalism, medicine, law, philosophy, the arts, astronomy and entrepreneurship. The curriculum also includes training skills such as presentation, research, debate, collaboration, and conflict resolution. It is an education focused on developing an all-rounded character.

Through the programs, IMC Weekend School provides students with the skills, knowledge and audacity that will help them to find a place in society that matches their capacities. The contacts created between passionate professionals and students bridge social inequalities and affect both parties. In an alumni program, guest teachers, sponsors and alumni stay connected, and develop professional relationships. The Weekend School offers a three-year program. Lessons take place every Sunday on Weekend School locations across the Netherlands.

Ahold Delhaize has committed to sponsoring IMC Weekend School for a period of three years and has chosen to sponsor the course “Future-proof entrepreneurship” which is taught on ten locations in the Netherlands.

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra distinguishes itself with its intensely energetic performances, its acclaimed recordings and its innovative audience approach. Founded in 1918, it has claimed its own position among Europe’s most foremost orchestras.

Part of their journey to invest in the development of young musicians, the orchestra initiated The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy in 2020. This program offers talented young musicians an extensive orchestral program in one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras.

Although the start of the program was delayed due to Covid, the academy has received an overwhelming number of applications from all over the world for the study year starting in September 2021. After live auditions, five students will be selected who will come over to Rotterdam in September and get their own section in the Student Hotel. They will not only get to play during orchestra productions, but they will also take part in an extensive program, including coaching sessions, lessons, training, and more.

Ahold Delhaize has committed to sponsoring the new Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy for a period of three years, from 2020 – 2022.
